Looking forward, what trends do you foresee in the legal landscape over the next 5–10 years that companies should prepare for?

Legal advisory will be outsourced for most companies, which will pose its own challenges to the company’s operations. Companies need to adopt to AI-powered legal solutions, which will challenge the ordinary legal advisory to which companies are accustomed. Companies should incorporate legal strategy and solutions in everyday operations and targets, which is a new trend nowadays. Legal risk and its mitigation will be a key trend for companies in the future to mitigate.

How does your team contribute to the overall business strategy of the company?

As a member of the Exco, the legal department at our company is quite involved in formation of business strategy, implementation, attainment of regulatory approvals and key stakeholder consultations including the board and shareholder.

How are you bringing the legal department closer to your business colleagues?

We have an open-door policy whereby other departments freely consult and seek our support throughout the entire business operations. Further, as a legal department, we have representation at all departmental meetings across the business divide which helps us to support our business colleagues in real time.
