What are the most significant cases, projects or transactions in which you and your legal team have been involved recently?

As a financial institution, one of our main commitments is to remain at the forefront in regulatory matters and in the adoption of best practices in corporate governance.

Over the past year, our team has worked on the review and updating of manuals, policies and internal procedures, ensuring their alignment with new provisions issued by regulatory bodies as well as with international standards applicable to the financial sector.

How do you manage legal aspects during periods of instability or crisis in order to ensure the resilience of the organisation?

In times of crisis, we adopt a proactive approach focused on legal risk assessment, contractual review and regulatory compliance. We establish clear communication protocols with other key areas to ensure quick and strategic responses. We also maintain direct contact with authorities and external advisers in order to anticipate regulatory changes.

What factors influence your team’s decision to use external legal services instead of handling matters internally, and what criteria do you use to assess their performance?

The decision to engage external legal services is guided primarily by the technical complexity of the matter, the need for specialisation in a specific legal area and, in some cases, by strategic or independence-related considerations. Although we have a strong and capable in-house legal team, we are aware that in certain situations it is more efficient and prudent to delegate specific matters to external firms with deeper expertise in the subject.

To select suitable legal providers, we evaluate multiple criteria, including: the firm’s track record and reputation, proven experience and successful cases, responsiveness and client focus, alignment with the company’s values, among others.

What is a cause, whether business-related or otherwise, that you are passionate about? Why?

A cause that I am deeply passionate about is corporate governance. I believe that a solid and transparent governance structure not only protects the interests of shareholders but also guarantees the long-term sustainability and reputation of any organisation. In contexts such as the Dominican Republic, where many companies are still undergoing institutional development, promoting good practices in corporate governance can make a crucial difference to their competitiveness and credibility, both locally and internationally.

Implementing clear control structures, compliance policies, codes of conduct and accountability mechanisms not only mitigates legal or regulatory risks but also creates a more ethical, professional and long-term oriented business culture.
