Career biography

María Alexandra Montero Martínez is an accomplished corporate lawyer with over 14 years of experience advising international clients on legal matters relating to foreign investment, complex transactional structuring, and regulatory compliance in the Dominican Republic. She currently serves as corporate legal manager of Soventix Caribbean, S.R.L., where she leads the legal function for the company’s renewable energy operations across the Latin-American region.

Throughout her career, María has advised on some of the most significant renewable energy projects in the country, including the structuring, financing, and execution of utility-scale photovoltaic plants. She has led the negotiation and implementation of EPC, O&M, and power purchase agreements, managed complex project finance structures, and overseen legal risk in multijurisdictional M&A and joint ventures.

Prior to joining Soventix in 2024, María developed her legal career at Pellerano & Herrera, one of the Dominican Republic’s most prestigious law firms. Over the course of 13 years—from trainee lawyer to senior associate, she built a strong practice advising multinational clients in sectors such as energy, finance, capital markets, and insurance. She regularly provided legal opinions on high-stakes regulatory matters, led legal due diligence for acquisitions, and supported issuers and underwriters in public offerings and structured finance deals.

Among her key achievements:

Led the legal structuring and negotiation of a multi-phase solar PV project exceeding 150 MW, including complex contractual matrices across EPC and O&M frameworks.

Advised a leading international acquirer in the purchase of a licensed insurer in the Dominican Republic, managing regulatory approvals before the Superintendency of Insurance.

Provided legal support to cross-border financings involving multilaterals and international banks, advising on Dominican security packages and tax implications.

Designed the internal legal governance and compliance framework for Soventix’s operations in the region.

María holds a Bachelor of Laws, cum laude, as well as a Master’s in Legal Practice and a Master’s in Tax Law from Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM). She has completed specialised training in international contracts (Georgetown University Law Center), capital markets, cross-border transactions (Lex Mundi), and tax compliance.
