How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crisis to ensure the organisation’s resilience?
Managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crisis requires a proactive, business-aligned approach that balances risk mitigation with operational continuity. Our legal team plays a central role in ensuring organisational resilience by focusing on crisis preparedness, strengthening governance and decision-making structures, and maintaining robust engagement with stakeholders and regulators.
Based on your experiences in the past year, are there any trends in the legal or business world that you are keeping an eye on that you think other in-house lawyers should be mindful of?
Over the past year, several key trends have emerged that in-house lawyers should monitor closely:
ESG regulation and greenwashing concerns, as scrutiny around sustainability claims increases
AI and data governance, particularly with the rapid rise of generative AI tools
Tightening regulatory enforcement across industries
Cybersecurity risks, especially in light of remote work and digital transformation
Contract agility, with more businesses seeking flexible legal frameworks to respond to change
These areas demand a more integrated, forward-thinking legal approach within organisations.
AI has been taken seriously as a potentially revolutionary technological change in the legal world for a number of years now. Has it had a meaningful impact in how your legal team works in this time?
Yes, AI is already having a meaningful impact on the way our legal team operates. We are currently using AI to:
Accelerate document review and due diligence processes
Enhance legal research and knowledge management
Automate parts of the contract lifecycle, helping improve efficiency and reduce turnaround time
AI is proving to be a valuable tool that supports our work—though it complements, rather than replaces, human legal judgement.
What is a cause, business or otherwise, that you are passionate about? Why is this?
I’m passionate about sustainability and the energy transition—particularly the role of the legal sector in supporting responsible, low-carbon growth. I believe legal teams have a vital role to play in helping businesses navigate ESG challenges, integrate sustainability into their strategies, and ensure that long-term decisions are made responsibly and ethically.
