Managing director, legal, and CEO Chile | Credicorp Capital
Mariana Gómez Moffat
Managing director, legal, and CEO Chile | Credicorp Capital
How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crisis to ensure the organisation’s resilience?
One of the most valuable lessons we have learned in recent years is that the only certainty we have is the uncertainty of the future. This understanding drives us to continuously evaluate how we adapt, whether embracing new technologies, anticipating regulatory changes or exploring other opportunities.
We strive to remain flexible and resilient, not only as individuals and as a team, but also as a company. For example, starting in August 2025, we will increase our in-office presence from two to three times per week. The decision is aimed at strengthening our company’s culture, fostering collaboration and enhancing the learning experience for all employees.
Have you had any experiences during your career as a lawyer that stand out as particularly unique or interesting?
Yes, in March 2025, in addition to my responsibilities as Managing Director Legal of Credicorp Capital, I took on the role of CEO of our company in Chile. Stepping into this position has been both a bold shift and an exciting opportunity to apply my legal expertise in a broader leadership context. My career as a lawyer has trained me to work well under pressure, assess complex risks quickly, and make decisive choices, all while working collaboratively to achieve results. These abilities have proven essential in guiding the company through strategic decisions and day-to-day challenges. While the transition brings new learning curves, I see them as opportunities for growth. I am confident that, with time, I will not only acquire the additional tools this role demands but also leverage my unique perspective to create lasting impact.
What is a cause, business or otherwise, that you are passionate about? Why is this?
I am deeply passionate about gender equality. It has been frustrating to see how slowly progress is moving in Chile, particularly in the legal sector, where women remain significantly underrepresented as partners. Three years ago, I took on the leadership of the Equity Program at Credicorp Group, and since then I have been actively involved in designing and implementing initiatives to promote equality in several of the countries where we operate.
Through this work, I have observed significant differences between Chile, Peru, and Colombia. In the legal industry, for example, it is far more common to see women in leadership roles in Peru and Colombia than in Chile. These contrasts have reinforced my conviction that cultural change and intentional policies are essential to narrowing the gap.
My passion for this cause is rooted not only in the belief that equality is a core human value, but also in the recognition that unconscious bias continues to block talented individuals from advancing. Too often, careers are shaped not by merit but by perceptions tied to gender. This is not just a matter of fairness; it is a critical business issue. I am convinced, as data shows, that diverse teams bring broader perspectives, greater creativity, and stronger results to companies in any industry.
