Head of legal, EPC | Atlas Renewable Energy
Ignacio Díaz Sahr is an energy and infrastructure legal executive with deep expertise in project development, financing, construction, and corporate governance within the renewable energy sector. Currently with a double function as Head of Legal Chile & Uruguay and Head of Legal EPC at Atlas Renewable Energy, Ignacio leads a legal team of approximately twelve professionals.
In his role at Atlas, Ignacio oversees complex commercial negotiations in Chile, including the structuring of power purchase agreements (PPAs), M&A processes, and project financing. He also oversees all legal aspects of EPC and supply contracts across Latin America, supporting projects from early construction to commercial operation.
As head of the legal team in Chile, he recently participated in Latin America’s first standalone energy storage project – Bess del Desierto – turning a visionary idea into regulatory and commercial reality within two years through effective coordination, negotiation, and innovation across stakeholders. Over the past two years, his team in Chile has also supported the signing and structuring of power purchase agreements exceeding 1.2 GW in projects, with the related financing already secured or in advanced negotiation.
Simultaneously, Ignacio oversees the Legal EPC work across LATAM, which plays a critical role in the execution of Atlas’s construction strategy. Over the past two years, the Legal EPC team has been instrumental in the negotiation of construction and supply agreements covering more than 1.3 GWp in Brazil and 200 MWp in Colombia.
Ignacio’s legacy in Chile stretches back to his tenure at Mainstream Renewable Power (2019–2021), where he served as Legal Manager. He played an active role in the company’s strategy to finance and build the Andes Renovables platform, comprising wind and solar portfolios of more than 1.2 GW, which reached financial closing with a multi-lender structure, marking one of the largest renewable platforms in Chile.
Ignacio holds a Law degree from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso (2006) and an LL.M. from University College London (UCL) in 2014, where he specialised in environmental and energy law.
