General counsel and chief privacy officer | Bond Brand Loyalty
What projects are you most proud to have worked on over the past 12 months?
Bond’s Legal department has been reviewing the data it collects on metrics such as volume of contracts, expediated vs. normal service level requests and latency between steps in the workflow with the objective to streamline processes and prioritize higher value work. Using traditional business tools such process mapping combined with machine-learning and artificial intelligence (AI), the Legal department has been able to push lower value templates to stakeholders while freeing up resourcing for enterprise priorities, standardized processes to reduce human error and provide a consistency of service levels.
The quantitative measurement of these initiatives is a client satisfaction score of 98% and a meeting or exceeding of key performance indicators monthly. Bond’s Legal Department has also successfully maintained labour leverage ratios of what the General Counsel reviews vs. other members of the department resulting in the appropriate apportionment of work based on volume, complexity and alignment with strategic priorities.
Bond’s Legal department has also been a key stakeholder in how Bond utilizes AI for both internal and external purposes. We have informed our team members of legislative changes that govern how AI should be used and contributed to how Bond on-boards AI supplier and vendors as well as how Bond can incorporate AI to client offerings which are effective while addressing client obligations.
Have you had any experiences during your career as a lawyer that stand out as particularly unique or interesting?
I am privileged to be the first in-house counsel at three different organizations providing a playbook on how to integrate a legal and risk management function to an organization that did not previously have one.
I have also managed other business departments as varied as Information Security, Finance, Procurement and Operations which was a nod of confidence by various managers of my commercially savvy manner of providing legal advice.
At Bond, I have been part of the senior leadership team that has expanded globally through both organic growth and acquisition in the United States of America, Europe and United Kingdom. It has been a rewarding professional experience to work in other countries and engage with different business cultures.
