Have you had any experiences during your career as a lawyer that stand out as particularly unique or interesting?
One of the most unique and rewarding experiences in my legal career has been leading the legal work for the synchronisation of the Ukrainian power system. As Head of Legal Services, I was responsible, together with my team, for adapting the contractual framework to support this complex and high-stakes integration. We conducted a comprehensive legal and regulatory risk assessment and proposed mitigation measures to ensure compliance and operational continuity. This work involved navigating cross-border regulatory environments, aligning with European energy standards, and anticipating geopolitical sensitivities. It served as a compelling example of how legal strategy can directly support critical infrastructure and regional stability.
What is a cause, business or otherwise, that you are passionate about?
I am deeply passionate about the energy transition. It is a cause that extends far beyond environmental sustainability; it is a multidimensional challenge encompassing climate responsibility, technological innovation, and geopolitical strategy. As Europe works to meet its emissions targets and integrate renewables, we are also redefining our energy independence and resilience.
From a legal and policy perspective, I find this transition particularly compelling. It requires rethinking regulatory frameworks, enabling cross-border infrastructure, and ensuring that market design supports both flexibility and security. The energy transition is not merely about replacing fossil fuels – it is about building a future-ready grid, accelerating electrification, and creating a system that is both decarbonised and competitive.
