What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?
My team has played a key role in supporting Procurement and Commercial in negotiating contracts with a wide range of suppliers. We have also advised on strategic fleet matters, including managing the legal documentation for the delivery of 14 new aircraft (A320neo and A321neo) in 2025, as well as broader fleet expansion initiatives and complex partnership agreements.
The delivery of 11 A320neo and 3 A321neo aircraft, in 2025, was strategically important to LATAM Airlines Brasil, significantly advancing its fleet renewal and cost-efficiency strategy. These aircraft deliver substantial fuel and maintenance savings compared to previous-generation models, helping reduce unit costs in Brazil’s highly competitive and fuel-sensitive market. The A321neo, in particular, enabled higher-capacity deployment on key trunk routes and growth at slot-constrained airports, allowing LATAM to expand capacity efficiently while largely replacing older aircraft rather than simply adding scale.
From a financial and strategic standpoint, these deliveries reinforced LATAM Brazil’s post-Chapter 11 discipline and credibility with manufacturers, lessors, and financiers. They supported improved operational reliability and customer experience through newer, more dependable aircraft, while also strengthening LATAM’s environmental and ESG positioning by lowering emissions and fuel burning. Overall, the 2025 narrowbody deliveries represented a material investment in Brazil as a core market and one of the most impactful single-year fleet modernization steps for the airline since its restructuring.
What new pressures are you facing from the business as expectations for legal to act as a strategic partner continue to grow?
Legal teams are increasingly expected to act as strategic business partners, rather than solely as risk advisors. This requires staying attuned to market trends, such as leveraging AI to drive efficiency and reduce costs, which is especially critical in a high-cost sector like aviation.
How is yourorganisation adapting to the rapid evolution of data protection, AI governance and cybersecurity requirements in Brazil?
We rely on a strong Legal Operations team within the Legal Department. In partnership with Legal Ops, we continuously assess emerging AI trends for legal teams and enhance our existing tools, such as our CLM platform. In parallel, LATAM Airlines maintains robust compliance frameworks for data protection and cybersecurity.
