Career biography
Jeremy Maetzener is a versatile and experienced tech lawyer and corporate generalist with strong expertise in litigation, AI, copyright, data protection, competition and contract law. He has worked as in-house counsel for Google since 2018 and has been the General Counsel of Google Switzerland since 2022. Jeremy advises international product clients across Google, as well as senior business and product leaders, on emerging tech regulation. He also provides strategic guidance to Google Switzerland’s site leadership, which manages a workforce of over 5,000 employees and oversees Google’s largest development hub outside the US.
At Google, his key focus areas include litigation, regulatory investigations, AI product launches, and public policy and emerging regulations, with a particular emphasis on copyright and AI. Jeremy is a regular speaker at domestic and international conferences and a lecturer at ETH Zurich and the University of St Gallen, covering topics such as platform regulation, intermediary liability, data protection, AI and copyright.
Before joining Google, Jeremy practised at a top-tier law firm based in Geneva, Zurich and London, specialising in cross-border disputes and international commercial arbitration. He studied law in Zurich and Hong Kong (LL.M.), holds the CS50 Harvard University Certificate in Computer Science, and has a Master of Arts degree in classical piano performance.
