How do you build and maintain strong relationships with key internal stakeholders, especially in high-pressure or fast-moving scenarios?
In high-pressure situations, I consider it essential to act with clarity, objectivity, and a strategic sense, especially when interacting with key stakeholders such as the Bank’s Board of Directors and C-level executives. I firmly believe in dispassionate technical analysis, even in urgent or complex situations. In these scenarios, my role has been to translate legal risk into practical terms for decision-making, always proposing viable solutions that balance regulatory compliance with business continuity. This attitude has strengthened my position as a strategic partner within the organisation.
I maintain a professional and collaborative relationship with other areas of the Bank, based on mutual trust. When I disagree with a proposal, I communicate it directly, technically, and respectfully; and, at the same time, I focus on offering realistic alternatives, considering the level of risk we are willing to assume as an organisation.
From an internal leadership perspective, I empower the assistant managers under my supervision, giving them the autonomy to represent the legal department in relevant forums, except when it comes to institutional-level issues, where I try to be present. We make decisions on complex matters together in frequent meetings, and if consensus isn’t reached, I make the final decision, defining the legal criteria we will apply.
In addition, I actively nurture the team’s climate, promoting a culture of openness, participation, and belonging in our interactions. Beyond the technical focus, I believe that a team that trusts its leadership works with greater commitment. Therefore, we celebrate achievements and birthdays and also share informal spaces that strengthen personal and professional bonds.
When differences arise—internal or external—my approach is to resolve them quickly and without drama. If I must give difficult feedback, I do so directly, briefly, and in a timely manner, without the need for reiteration. This has contributed to building lasting relationships of trust over time.
