SVP, General counsel, Chief administration officer andamp; Corporate secretary | Unisys
Team size: approximately 200, broken across two towers: Legal and Administration
What are the most significant cases, projects, or transactions that you and your legal team have recently been involved in?
Cultivating a high-performing Legal and Administration team responsible for the delivery of key corporate services and risk mitigation that also plays a critical role in shaping business strategy and serving as a growth partner is my proudest achievement at Unisys.
How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crisis to ensure the organisation’s resilience?
We continue to experience a blistering pace of regulatory and legal change. To manage this, we have prioritised the adoption of AI-enhanced tools — from software that accelerates deal execution and service delivery to chatbots providing 24/7 real-time guidance to associates — in order to work faster and smarter. The goal for our team has been to strike the right balance: leveraging AI for efficiency while championing high-performing talent empowered to deliver solutions in a dynamic business environment.
What do you think are the most important attributes for a modern in-house counsel to possess?
Agility and adaptability. We have observed that technology is a great enabler, but it is not a replacement for creative problem-solving and the human oversight still required for nuanced decision-making in today’s complex world.
Based on your experiences in the past year, are there any trends in the legal or business world that you are keeping an eye on that you think other in-house lawyers should be mindful of?
AI oversight and preparedness are critical for effective risk mitigation and management.
