Career Biography
I am Montserrat Del Villar, serving as Legal Manager at KPMG Mexico, where I am part of the Office of the General Counsel team. I have over five years of experience in corporate law and in-house practice, providing comprehensive legal support across the firm’s operations, ensuring compliance with national and international regulations, and promoting a culture in which the legal team collaborates closely with all areas of the firm as a trusted partner.
In my role, I oversee the review and negotiation of contracts with suppliers and third parties, both domestic and international, providing strategic advice to internal teams to ensure that each agreement mitigates risks and complies with applicable law. My practice primarily covers civil and commercial law, data privacy, and intellectual property.
One of my most significant achievements has been leading the establishment of the firm’s Intellectual Property department. I designed and implemented key policies, processes, and evaluation criteria to strategically manage and protect the firm’s intellectual assets. This initiative strengthened internal IP governance.
I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Law and a Bachelor’s Degree in International Affairs, as well as a Master’s in Corporate Law from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and a Master of Law from the University of the Incarnate Word.
My professional philosophy is centred on collaboration, adaptability, and continuous learning. I believe that a strong in-house legal team not only protects the organisation but also contributes to its growth by listening to and learning from other teams, ensuring that legal guidance aligns with business needs. For me, legal excellence is inseparable from curiosity, empathy, and a commitment to continuous growth.
