How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience?

I think it comes down to proactive risk management and legal agility. Legal departments sometimes get a bad reputation for becoming bottlenecks rather than business facilitators. At Grupo MRP, our legal strategy is tightly aligned with business continuity efforts. We revise contracts to favor flexibility, ensuring solid enforcement and maintaining regulatory compliance. Legal’s role is not just to prevent and mitigate risk but to enable strategic adaptation, helping the company remain resilient and positioned for growth.

What are the major cases or transactions you have been involved in recently?

Early this year, we acquired an industrial property in northern Mexico. We also finalised a joint venture for a hospitality project in one of Mexico’s top beach destinations. We also acquired and are currently developing a project conceived as a stand-alone shop. Each of these transactions had its own peculiarities. They required close coordination with external counsel and internal stakeholders to ensure compliance and strategic alignment.

What measures has your company taken to embed sustainability practices into its core business operations, and how does the role of the general counsel contribute to driving and ensuring sustainable practices within the company?

Grupo MRP has embedded sustainability through LEED-certified developments, water treatment systems, and energy efficiency in its real estate projects. My role as part of the legal team is to ensure that these commitments are reflected in agreements with our vendors and to collaborate with ESG teams to align legal documentation with environmental goals. Legal translates sustainability into enforceable obligations, ensuring accountability and long-term impact.
