Career Biography

Paul McNamara is SuperNode Limited’s Head of Legal and leads SuperNode’s legal, IP and compliance functions. SuperNode is a cutting-edge technology company developing the next generation superconducting cable systems which can carry 5-10x more energy in a single line than conventional electricity transmission technology. SuperNode recently demonstrated the world’s first superconducting cable using a polymeric cryostat. A key aspect of McNamara’s role is ensuring that its technology developments are appropriately protected and McNamara has lead on the application for a number of patents including two granted patents for SuperNode’s proprietary inner cryostat which is a key enabler of SuperNode’s technology.

In addition to this, McNamara is the chief legal advisor on funding and corporate transactions, vendor management, procurement, disputes, employment law, data protection and all other issues. McNamara is also a member of the SuperNode’s Senior Leadership Team and is involved in all strategic decision-making affecting the business.

Prior to joining SuperNode in 2021, McNamara worked in the Corporate & M&A department of William Fry advising on a number of corporate transactions including Afilias on its sale to Donuts, Inc, Celtic Rugby on the investment by CVC into the PRO14 tournament and DCC on its acquisition of a retail oil business. He has a degree in Law and French from UCC and Master in International Commercial Law from the University of Aberdeen and is also a chartered tax advisor.
