Career Biography

Debasmita Gupta is an in-house legal & compliance professional with more than two decades of experience at managing diverse roles in global as well as Indian MNCs across Pharmaceutical, Banking, Management Consulting, Analytics, Alcoholic Beverages, Retail & Textile Sectors.

Debasmita is currently working as the Group General Counsel for a publicly listed textile MNC, Himatsingka Group and is responsible for handling strategic legal matters globally. Prior to joining Himatsingka, Debasmita was associated with Landmark Group, Diageo, IHS Global (Currently S&P Global), Accenture Services, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Limited, IndusInd Bank and started her career with Gagrat & Co – Advocates & Solicitors. Debasmita has rich experience in working with C-suite leadership level advising on various legal matters around transaction advisory, legal risk management, litigation and M&As.

She has driven and championed automation projects across multiple legal and compliance processes. Debasmita is also well-versed in setting up of legal operations from scratch and has implemented leading practices in various legal domain areas as well as re-engineering initiatives over her long career. Debasmita has also worked on a special project interacting with the Executive Management of a listed entity to monetise a portfolio of high-value assets navigating through complex and tricky regulatory and process challenges.

She was involved in a path-breaking Government of India (GoI) nationwide project which has been hailed as a landmark GoI reform from a legal risk management and advisory role. As a presiding officer of POSH, Debasmita was instrumental in setting up formal processes and clearly demarcating roles and responsibilities.
