Career Biography

Abhijit Mukhopadhyay is the President (Legal) and General Counsel of the Hinduja Group and is involved in the Group’s worldwide legal matters based in London, which include merger and acquisition activities, international partnerships, joint ventures, intellectual property-related issues, disputes, litigation management and international arbitration, international contracts and agreements, global compliances, interaction with regulators, international settlement activities, company secretarial activities across the jurisdictions, engagement of external law firms/lawyers across jurisdictions, corporate governance etc. He also serves as a director on the Board of several Group Companies in various countries.

The Hinduja Group is a global conglomerate with around 200,000 people working in more than 50 countries, in different continents. This 100-year-old conglomerate operates in business verticals covering administration, banking, power generation, business processes outsourcing, healthcare, hospitality, media and entertainment and real estate. The Group has many companies across jurisdictions including public listed companies.

Previously, he worked in India as a Director, Company Secretary, and General Counsel in several major publicly listed, Private and Joint Venture companies. There he held the position of Director, Chief General Manager, Senior Vice President (all positions one step below the levels of the Board of Directors).

In 2025, Abhijit was responsible to provide advice to its businesses across the jurisdictions. His main contributions are to uphold corporate governance and ethical standards, yet to remain helpful to the businesses actively supporting them towards their growth.

Abhijit graduated in Commerce (Honours), Law from the UK and India and Company and Chartered Secretaryship from India and the UK.

Abhijit has been listed in the top 50 legal professionals, top 25 GCs, Legal 500 Powerlist, in 2016, 2018, 2022, 2023 and 2024, and in the list of top 99 General Counsels from 31 countries.

Abhijit was the Vice Chairman of the ICC’s Arbitration Commission and a member of its Steering Committee in Paris. Currently Abhijit is a Member of the ICC’s ‘Think Tank’ in Paris. He is also on the Advisory Council of Centre for Commercial Law Studies (CCLS), Queen Mary University of London, an Executive Committee Member of the IBF, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII UK), and Regional Liaison Officer of the International Bar Association’s (IBA) global Corporate Counsel Forum.

He has spoken globally in more than 20 countries and published articles in many countries.
