What are the key projects that you have been involved in over the past twelve months?

Over the past year, I have played a central role in several strategic initiatives that have shaped my company’s operational and governance landscape. A key highlight was leading the regulatory and compliance processes for the company’s rebranding from Engen Ghana Ltd to MISA Energy Ghana Ltd. This involved coordinating submissions to regulatory bodies, ensuring statutory compliance, and managing stakeholder expectations to guarantee a seamless transition without business disruption.

I also supported the company’s bunkering operations, providing legal guidance to ensure compliance with maritime, environmental, and energy‑sector regulatory frameworks. Additionally, I contributed to our partnership with Petronas Lubricants International, aligning contractual arrangements with business objectives to enhance our lubricant portfolio in Ghana.

Finally, I played a key role in facilitating corporate restructuring efforts, ensuring that governance structures, documentation, and legal processes fully aligned with both local laws and the broader strategic direction of the Mocoh Group.

How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience?

My approach to managing legal matters during periods of instability or crisis begins with understanding the root cause of the issue and assessing its potential impact on the business. From there, I prioritse risk mitigation, compliance, and the protection of the organisation’s assets and reputation.

Within our organisation, we utilise a risk matrix to evaluate the likelihood and severity of potential risks. This tool helps guide decision‑making and ensures that our response measures are proactive, structured, and aligned with business continuity needs.

My legal strategy always aligns closely with the broader business strategy. During crises, I develop a clear roadmap that supports operational resilience, mitigates losses, and enables the organisation to adapt effectively to new realities. I believe that strong corporate governance and well‑designed business processes form the foundation of organisational resilience. When systems are efficient and governance structures are clear, the business is better equipped to absorb shocks, recover quickly, and maintain continuity in the face of uncertainty.

Given Ghana’s continued push for sustainability, what measures has your company taken to incorporate sustainability practices into its core business operations? How can general counsel contribute to driving such initiatives within the organisation?

MISA Energy, as part of the Mocoh Group, is committed to delivering energy solutions that are reliable, efficient, and sustainable. Our sustainability agenda forms part of our broader commitment to support Ghana’s economic development while minimising environmental impact.

To this end, we have adopted several sustainability practices, including: integrating solar energy across a number of our service stations to reduce our carbon footprint; promoting waste recycling as part of our operational culture; and ensuring transparency and adherence to safe, environmentally conscious operating standards that benefit communities and align with national sustainability objectives.

As General Counsel, I play a key role in enabling these initiatives by providing the legal and governance framework required for their successful execution. This includes ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, facilitating partnerships that support sustainable initiatives, and embedding policies and guidelines that help the organisation meet its sustainability goals in a timely and compliant manner.
