Dr. Jörg Kammerer is Group General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer of Securing Energy for Europe (until June 2022, GAZPROM Germania). Securing Energy for Europe is one of the largest gas infrastructure, marketing, and trading companies in Germany and the UK. In his role, Jörg leads the group’s global legal, regulatory, and compliance organisation. He joined Gazprom in 2008 from the chemical company BAYER, where he served as legal counsel. After holding numerous roles in Gazprom’s legal department, Jörg’s responsibilities gradually broadened, taking on the role of Head of Gazprom Germania’s legal department in 2012, its German subsidiaries WINGAS and astora in 2014, and since 2019, Group General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer for the company’s European and global LNG business activities. In addition, Jörg has served as Managing Director of the German gas transportation joint venture with Wintershall Dea since 2022.

Jörg’s team has been involved in all matters beyond the daily gas marketing, trading, and infrastructure business, from complex cross-border M&A transactions and international arbitration involving several billion euros, to the complete restructuring of the energy business. The most high-profile recent issue has been the ownership transfer from Gazprom to the German state, the intensive restructuring measures prompted by dramatic energy market changes, and the transformation of the company to secure Europe’s energy supply, including the shift from fossil fuels to green energy under the guidance of the German government to accelerate the energy transition. In this context, Jörg’s international team of around 40 associates assists in ensuring the operation and transformation of the company’s gas storage and transport assets, energy marketing and trading business, and international LNG supplies. This is supported by the largest financing the German state has ever provided to a single entity.
