How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crisis to ensure the organisation’s resilience?

During periods of instability or crisis, legal management must be both preventive and strategic. It is essential to monitor regulatory changes, assess legal and reputational risks, and ensure compliance without disrupting business continuity. Close coordination between the legal department and senior management, together with clear and transparent communication with key stakeholders (clients, employees, suppliers and regulators), enables timely decision‑making and reduces potential contingencies. Ongoing training for staff on relevant legal matters, along with properly documenting the decisions taken during a crisis, helps strengthen governance, minimise future liabilities, and ensure that the company not only withstands the crisis but adapts and emerges stronger.

How can general counsel foster a corporate culture that supports ESG principles and compliance across all levels of the organisation?

Factors such as globalisation, digitalisation, reputation, climate change, growing demands for transparency, and the rise of ESG principles (environmental, social and governance) have made ethical conduct a decisive element in the sustainability and legitimacy of companies. In this context, the role of the legal manager, traditionally viewed as a technical legal function focused on regulatory and compliance matters, has evolved into a far more strategic and interdisciplinary one. Today, the legal manager acts as a bridge between law and ethics, guiding corporate decision‑making and serving as an “ambassador of corporate integrity”, with an increasingly central responsibility in shaping an organisational culture that is ethical, transparent and aligned with the principles of good corporate governance.

What is a cause, business or otherwise, that you are passionate about? Why is this?

I am genuinely excited about working within mentoring programmes, whether as a mentee or a mentor, because I gain so much from those who generously share their time, knowledge, reflections, aspirations and trust in the business environment. These exchanges also help me strengthen other key competencies, particularly in developing high‑performance teams, making strategic decisions and communicating effectively with different stakeholders, while expanding my network and seeking opportunities to lead, grow and inspire with transparency.

I also have a personal connection to disability, distant enough that it is not my own experience, yet close enough that it has shaped my life since the age of five. Through this, I learned the true meaning of empathy, resilience and human dignity. It inspired me to act and awakened in me a deep sensitivity to inequality, along with a strong conviction that we all have a responsibility to contribute, from our own privilege and possibilities, to building a fairer and more accessible society.
