What are the most significant cases, projects and/or transactions that you and/or your legal team have recently been involved in?

Over the past year, my work has focused primarily on strengthening corporate governance, compliance and risk management within the pharmaceutical sector. I have led the implementation and consolidation of the Corporate Compliance Programme, including the update of the risk matrix, internal policies and controls aligned with international standards.

I have also headed the comprehensive implementation of the Personal Data Protection Programme, which involved internal audits, risk assessments, contractual adjustments with commercial partners, and the rollout of compliance mechanisms for employees, healthcare professionals and consumers.

Another significant project has been managing the pricing‑strategy process before the competent authority, achieving the deregulation of approximately 80% of the medicine’s portfolio, as well as the digitalisation and regulatory oversight of promotional materials and scientific and commercial events in Ecuador, Peru and Panama.

What strategies do you employ to ensure the successful digital transformation of a legal department while maintaining compliance with your country’s data protection laws?

The digital transformation of the legal function must begin with a clear assessment of risks. In my experience, success lies in integrating digital tools that not only streamline processes but also embed regulatory compliance into their design (“compliance by design”).

I have led the implementation of corporate digital systems for the approval and control of materials, contracts and events, ensuring traceability, segregation of duties and the protection of personal data. This is complemented by ongoing training for the team and business areas, as well as periodic audits that help identify deviations and enable timely adjustments.

How does your team contribute to the overall business strategy of the company? Can you share an example of a recent legal-led initiative that had a significant impact?

The legal and compliance function acts as an enabler of the business. Beyond oversight, our aim is to provide legal certainty for strategic decision‑making. A recent example is the legal department’s active involvement in new product launches, where we support the entire process — from regulatory and pricing assessments to contractual structuring and promotional compliance — enabling an efficient and fully compliant market entry.

The legal team at Laboratorios Siegfried manages most legal and compliance matters in‑house, turning to external advisers only for highly specialised issues. The company has developed, together with technology providers, internal tools designed to ensure traceability, approval and control of materials and events, as well as compliance audits, thereby strengthening operational efficiency and regulatory oversight.
