What are the most significant cases, projects and/or transactions that you and/or your legal team have recently been involved in?

In my role as part of the corporation’s legal team, I work in the areas of intellectual property and authorisations for the use of water resources.

In Intellectual Property, we monitor validity, registrations, renewals, licences and review advertising contracts, ensuring the protection of trademark rights and mitigating legal and reputational risks for the brands owned by the corporation.

In Water Use Authorisations, we monitor validity, renewal, applications for water use authorisation, and support and coordinate with internal technicians in their reports, verifying compliance with applicable regulations to ensure that we have the authorisation for use granted by the competent authority.

How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crisis to ensure the organisation’s resilience?

In the areas of intellectual property and authorisations for the use of water resources, the legal department acts in a preventive, strategic and coordinated manner, providing legal certainty to maintain business continuity and avoid infringements, fines and/or loss of rights.

What strategies do you employ to ensure the successful digital transformation of a legal department while maintaining compliance with your country’s data protection laws?

Establishing internal policies, including confidentiality clauses and data use authorisation clauses in contracts. Maintaining coordination with the Technology department to ensure regulatory compliance and a successful digital transformation.

Have you had any experiences during your career as a lawyer that stand out as particularly unique or interesting?

In the area of Water Resources, review of technical reports related to groundwater abstraction, which form a substantial and complex part of the administrative process for authorising water use. The process requires the solicitor to develop the ability to understand and translate the technical language of engineers, both in technical reports issued by the corporation’s internal engineers and by engineers from the competent authority, to identify technical inconsistencies between the two, to prevent observations by the authority as far as possible, and to obtain favourable reports in order to obtain authorisation for water use.
