Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary | Rogers Communications
As Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary of Rogers Communications, I lead a team of 60 professionals across Canada, overseeing a complex portfolio of legal and governance matters. Our in-house legal function supports every dimension of Rogers’ telecommunications, media, sports and entertainment businesses, including Rogers’ ordinary course legal needs, corporate commercial transactions and litigation. The rapidly evolving telecommunications industry and regulatory landscape pose unique challenges for our team. As Canadians become even more reliant on telecommunications, addressing these challenges requires constant adaptation by our team. The defining transaction in my professional career was Rogers’ historic $26 billion acquisition of Shaw Communications —the largest telecommunications merger in Canadian history. This multi-year transaction, finalized in 2023, required navigating challenges from the Competition Bureau, managing a major divestiture, and coordinating across multiple stakeholders. While the merger process was underway, my team directed the largest and fastest contested merger trial ever conducted before the Competition Tribunal and subsequent appeal to the Federal Court of Appeal. It was a high-profile mandate in the country with the highest stakes for Rogers. I am deeply committed to cultivating a culture within Rogers’ legal department that emphasizes empowerment, continuous learning, and professional excellence. I am focused on elevating the in-house legal team and reshaping perceptions of corporate counsel as strategic business partners. My background in engineering and law allows me to bridge technical and legal considerations – a skill vital when working with business partners. My time as VP of corporate development gave me detailed insight into Rogers’ business operations and taught me the entrepreneurial qualities that Rogers has fostered and rewarded in its 60-year history.
