What are the key projects that you have been involved in over the past 12 months?

The department’s challenges in recent years have focused on many M&A projects (investments but also deinvestments). These are the results of the corporate strategy, which envisages an expansive growth course. The legal and organisational integration of the targets into the group in terms of corporate governance is a key area of responsibility for the department. In addition, the department is currently also dealing with issues such as data protection, as well as the implementation of compliance measures and the certification of the compliance management system. The department was also heavily involved in the processing of a public law case.

What strategies do you employ to ensure the successful digital transformation of a legal department while maintaining compliance with your country’s data protection laws?

We use digital solutions built internally by our in-house IT department, as well as externally purchased solutions. The integration of data protection officers into the departmental structure ensures immediate legal certainty.

What do you think sets you apart from other in-house counsel?

To be honest, nothing. In-house lawyers are inherently more flexible people simply because of the large number of different subject areas they must deal with and the, often, high workload. This fact, combined with perseverance and consistency, perhaps makes the difference in the long term.
