What do you think are the most important attributes for a modern in-house counsel to possess?
The ability to analyse complex situations, identify risks, and propose pragmatic solutions is essential. This involves creative thinking and the ability to anticipate potential issues before they arise. Building and maintaining strong relationships across the organisation is also vital. This includes collaboration with other departments and being seen as a trusted advisor. A modern in-house counsel should also be mindful of the financial impact of legal actions and advice. This involves managing legal budgets effectively, seeking cost-efficient legal solutions, and balancing the costs and benefits of pursuing certain legal strategies.
What is a cause, business or otherwise, that you are passionate about?
My career at ISTA is driven by the cause of supporting and promoting scientific research and science education. Science holds the key to significant transformations, particularly in tackling urgent issues like climate change, disease prevention, and managing resources sustainably.
