Career Biography

My career in privacy began at the very inception of its formal regulation in my home country. I had the unique privilege of being the first public servant appointed to the newly formed Argentinean Data Protection Authority (DPA). In that foundational role, I was not merely an enforcer, but also an architect. I helped draft the initial interpretative regulations, conducted the country’s first official data protection audits, and established key legal precedents that would shape Argentina’s privacy landscape for years to come. This experience provided me with an invaluable, ground-level perspective on the legislative intent and practical challenges of implementing data protection law — a perspective that continues to inform my strategic thinking today.

This foundation in public service was the ideal springboard for my transition to the private sector, where I took on the monumental challenge of building a world-class privacy program from scratch at Mercado Libre (MELI), Latin America’s leading technology company. When I arrived, I was tasked with creating the vision, strategy, and operational framework to protect the data of hundreds of millions of users across 18 distinct jurisdictions.

This has involved building a multi-national team of dedicated specialists and, most critically, embedding privacy-by-design principles deep within the product development lifecycle across our diverse ecosystem — from our e-commerce marketplace and logistics network to our fintech powerhouse, Mercado Pago. My core mission has been to engineer a compliance framework that is both robust and agile enough to navigate the complex and evolving tapestry of regional regulations, including landmark laws like Brazil’s LGPD. We have successfully transformed privacy from a reactive compliance function into a core value proposition and a key driver of user trust.

My leadership philosophy is built on the conviction that robust privacy is not an obstacle to innovation, but a catalyst for it. By earning and maintaining our users’ trust, we create a sustainable foundation for growth. I have always focused on acting as a strategic partner to the business, translating complex legal requirements into actionable, technology-driven solutions. This involves looking beyond current laws to anticipate future regulatory trends, allowing us to build a resilient and scalable program that empowers the company to lead responsibly.

Being included in the GC Powerlist is a powerful validation of this proactive, business-enabling approach. It reinforces my commitment to championing data protection, mentoring the next generation of privacy professionals, and continuing to help build a digital future for Latin America where technology and trust advance hand in hand.
