Novo Nordisk
Panagiotis Psaltakis, legal and compliance director, leads the in-house legal team of three lawyers in Istanbul of Novo Nordisk responsible for the near East and CIS countries, 22 nations in total. In Istanbul, Psaltakis is joined by legal manager Serpil Cakan and compliance manager Ceylan Tum. In the last two years, Novo Nordisk has gone through a recent restructuring to remove Iran from its business remit whilst adding the CIS countries to its responsibilities. The team was very active in the transition period to ensure best coverage of all countries from day one with physical visits to all affiliates in three months. With this international coverage area, the team is highly experienced in cross border and multi-jurisdictional matters. For example, in the last year the team has handled an anti-trust investigation case in one affiliate with the support of the global organisation while addressing different compliance cases in different markets. Psaltakis describes the wider team as, ‘14 legal eagles crossing boundaries’, meaning the team is made up of ‘14 people from several different nationalities, seated in different countries, coming from different legal backgrounds managing to work together. Further, we are covering 22 countries by not only putting a supervisory light from the business area office but rather being physically and actively present in each and every affiliate’.
