What are the most significant cases, projects, or transactions that you and your legal team have recently been involved in?

As part of the global spin-off initiative in the entire organisation this year, I have led our regional legal team which played a central role in enabling the separation of the biggest business unit of the company into a fully autonomous entity. This complex undertaking required meticulous legal planning and execution across multiple jurisdictions, particularly within APAC, China, and India. Our legal work encompassed the full lifecycle of entity separation, including: Legal Entity Scoping and Allocation, Drafting and Negotiation of Carve-Out Agreements, Employment and Contractual Transitions, Regulatory and Compliance Readiness, and Governance and Risk Management.

What strategies do you employ to ensure the successful digital transformation of a legal department while maintaining compliance with your country’s data protection laws?

To lead a successful digital transformation of the legal department while maintaining compliance with Singapore’s Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA), a General Counsel should establish a robust privacy governance framework, including a Privacy Council, Privacy Office, and regional Privacy Leads, to ensure accountability and local alignment. Digital initiatives must be strategically mapped and integrated to avoid redundancy and ensure interoperability across platforms like CLM and AI tools. Modernising contract lifecycle management with automation, traceability, and clear signing policies is essential, alongside embedding data protection by design in all legal processes. AI and legal operations tools should be evaluated for strategic fit and operational readiness, while legal teams must be trained on PDPA compliance, cybersecurity, and ethical tech use to ensure both innovation and regulatory adherence.
