Legal Specialist - Legal Studies & Services | General Authority for Competition, Saudi Arabia

What are the most significant cases and/or transactions that you have been involved in over the past year?

My primary tasks in the Legal Studies & Services Unit are in the domains of public international law, international comparative law, M&A and joint ventures, public policy, and best global practices in competition law.

I truly enjoy conducting complex legal research into the best global practices relating to competition law. During my Master of International Law from the University of Western Australia (UWA), I had the pleasure of completing a comparative legal research paper under the supervision of Adjunct Professor/Barrister Kanaga Dharmananda SC on whether patent disputes can be arbitrated in the United States, Switzerland, and Australia. Since then, my passion for international comparative law and complex legal research has grown.

What do you think are the key things to remember to motivate and manage the other members of your legal team?

I have aspired to work in the public sector since I was completing my Bachelor of Laws (Honours) at the Queensland University of Technoloy (QUT). I always remind myself and my colleagues that working in the public sector is a rewarding job with important responsibilities. I encourage myself and my colleagues to attend legal conferences and workshops, stay up to date with the latest global competition law amendments and news, and always remain agile.

What is a cause, business-related or otherwise, that you are passionate about, and why?

I’m passionate about volunteering. My passion for volunteering began while studying in Australia when I volunteered with the United Nations Association of Australia (UNAA) and the Australian Red Cross. I’ve gained many of my soft skills from volunteering and I find it to be rewarding.
