What are the most significant cases and/or transactions that you have been involved in over the past year?

In the past year, I worked on the following digital sustainability platform deal: SLB and Aramco framework seeks to create digital sustainability technologies.

What innovations have you made to the way your legal team works in the past year?

Ensuring that we leverage key solutions like SharePoint (a shared space for the legal team to work from and maintain all related documents), legal websites (a one-stop location to find key standards, procedures, and updates), and group email addresses for ease of access by the business (to avoid searching for individuals), etc.

Based on your experience, what is the key to collaborating successfully with business partners?

Understanding the business is key to having effective discussions around risk.

Having early discussions on any key opportunities.

Being able to explain, in simple terms, the key issues or risks that the legal team has identified and would like to address.

Which political, economic or regulatory changes have impacted your work the most in the past year?

Saudi Arabia has had several regulatory updates and changes. One in particular is the data privacy regulation from 2023, which took effect in 2024.

Apart from legal matters, has the team worked on other company initiatives you would like to highlight?

Training has been a key part of our legal team’s efforts, to ensure that employees in all locations are trained in compliance matters, SLB’s Code of Conduct, and overall understanding of reporting.

What do you think are the key things to remember to motivate and manage the other members of your legal team?

Keeping them updated on any key matters, and maintaining continuous communication to ensure alignment.

What is a cause, business-related or otherwise, that you are passionate about, and why?

I am passionate about teaching and training. It has always been a part of the job that I enjoy—whether training legal personnel or business colleagues.

Are the effects of AI on the legal world overplayed, or underplayed?

It’s going to be an important part of the legal world, but it will take time. I’m very interested to see how companies like LexisNexis bring this into their offering in the MENA region.
