How has your role as in-house counsel evolved over the past few years, particularly in response to shifting global or regional dynamics?

My role as in-house counsel has evolved significantly, shifting from the traditional “legal gatekeeper” to a “strategic enabler” with a more proactive, strategic and integrated approach to business partnerships. This evolution enables me to invest more time in anticipating future legal landscapes, inserting compliance directly into business operations, and ensuring that our advisory contributes directly to my company’s competitive advantage and sustainable growth.

How do you build and maintain strong relationships with key internal stakeholders, especially in high-pressure or fast-moving scenarios?

In my experience, strong stakeholder relationships are built on a foundation of proactive communication, mutual trust, a solution-focused approach, and emotional intelligence, especially in this kind of scenario. Also, we can effectively collaborate with them by setting shared goals and connected processes.

What do you consider the biggest challenge for in-house legal teams today, and how are you addressing it within your own team?

Today, the biggest challenge is keeping up with the pace of change and the complexity of our business needs, while also transitioning to being recognised as a truly strategic, value-adding business partner. This involves managing increasing regulatory demands, high impact risks, technological shifts and heightened stakeholder expectations without an equivalent increase in resources,

How do you cultivate legal talent internally, and what skills do you see as most essential for the next generation of in-house lawyers?

This is a cornerstone of our team’s strength and continuity. My leadership style is intrinsically linked to this, as I believe in leading by example and emphasising that the way in which we achieve our results is as important as the results themselves. Specifically, my approach to talent cultivation focuses on three key pillars: modelling best practices and the practical application of legal knowledge, fostering trust and partnership with stakeholders through a deep understanding of our business needs, and embedding a compliance mindset for everything we do.
