Telenor
Telenor dates its origins back to 1855 when it was a Norwegian state-operated monopoly provider of telegraph services. Today the company is a major multinational telecommunications company with approximately 172 million customers. The company’s legal function has undergone some notable changes recently but continues to impress nominators for providing legal support on a number of areas aimed at developing and achieving the company’s business agenda further. In June 2018, senior vice president Siri Birgitte Bang Berge was appointed as general counsel after excelling as head of group legal for two years. Notable achievements that the Telenor legal team has accomplished in 2018 include implementing strategy with regards to new GDPR regulations, contributing to an agreement with the EU which sees Telenor Group take responsibility for a new project to accelerate the uptake of 5G across Europe, and the disposal of Telenor’s operations in Central and Eastern Europe to PPF Group for €2.8bn. These achievements show the strength of the company’s legal function in facilitating key strategic milestones and developments on behalf of one of the most historic and renowned telecoms businesses in Scandinavia.
