Career Biography

As a passionate IP lawyer with more than 17 years of experience, I have been fortunate to hold legal IP positions across different practices and industries in Norway, ranging from the registration authorities, law firm and in-house positions in different Norwegian companies.

My interest in IP was born when I attended the WIPO Summer School in Geneva in 2007, where I met a lot of IP enthusiasts who had a great mix of personal interest for protection of creativity and innovation, combined with law. The Program covered aspects of IP put into different economic and cultural contexts, which gave me insightful and new perspectives on IP that I have taken with me since.

I started my IP career as a temporary employee with the Norwegian Industrial Property Office, as part of the Trademark Department. After one year, I started working as an attorney at Bull & Co law firm, which at that time was an IP boutique firm. At Bull & Co, I learned the broader spectrum of IP, not only covering the registered IP rights, but also IP in a broader context e.g. in contracts and related fields of law (corporate, marketing, strategy), which provided me with a more holistic picture of IP.

In 2012, I undertook a major transition, taking on my first position as an in-house lawyer, as a legal counsel IP (later General Counsel IP) in Stokke. In Stokke, I had the pleasure of protecting its unique products, focusing on the copyright protection of the iconic Tripp Trapp chair through dozens of IP litigations and litigations against Xplory counterfeits in China.

In 2018, I joined the legal team of TINE SA, where I was a group legal counsel covering all IP matters, including a lot of brand related matters, IP contracts and IP strategy work. Working in a big company taught me i.a. the importance of strategic alignment to ensure that forces are pulled in the same direction.

In 2021, I took on the position as Lead IP Counsel in reMarkable, where I now hold the position as VP Legal, Head of IP. reMarkable is a Norwegian tech company with highly dedicated and knowledgeable people, product developments and high focus on IP. My main tasks in general are:

  • negotiation important IP contracts to secure collaborations and co-developments
  • establishing IP protection (trademark, design and patent protection), constantly increasing the total IP portfolio
  • enforcing IP rights towards infringing use of reMarkable’s brand and other IP
  • practicing strict trade secret protection towards external partners to prevent leakage of sensitive information
  • establishing internal procedures and processes for managing IP related to inventions and designs internally and externally
  • securing IP strategic alignment with management

Personally, I am thriving best when working as an in-house counsel. It allows me to use a greater part of my personal skill set. As an in-house lawyer, you need to understand the business you are working in, the relevant landscape, your colleagues’ perspectives, and how to translate the law into understandable and practical measures. My passion lies in leveraging IP for the companies I work for to capture all the valuable creative and innovative work that are created, to provide possibilities and optionalities for the companies.
