What are the projects that you are most proud of working on over the past 12 months?

1. Strengthening Corporate Governance

One of the primary focuses has been on enhancing corporate governance practices within the organisation. We have worked diligently to ensure robust compliance with regulatory standards and to promote ethical business practices. This initiative has involved revising internal policies, conducting thorough audits, and implementing training programs.

2. Intellectual Property Protection

Protecting our intellectual property has been a key priority. Over the past year, we have taken significant steps to safeguard our patents, trademarks, and copyrights, ensuring that our innovations and brand identity remain secure. This has included filing new applications, defending existing rights, and navigating complex litigation processes.

3. Inclusion and Belonging

Promoting Inclusion and Belonging within the legal team and the broader organisation has been a passion project. We have launched several initiatives aimed at fostering an inclusive work environment, including mentorship programs, diversity training, and partnerships with organizations that support underrepresented groups in the legal profession.

Based on your experiences in the past year, are there any trends in the legal or business world that you are keeping an eye on that you think other in-house lawyers should be mindful of?

3. Trends in the Legal Business World

One notable trend is the increasing emphasis on digital transformation such as artificial intelligence and blockchain to streamline legal processes, enhance data security, and improve overall efficiency. Our lawyers stay updated with technological advancements and understand their implications on legal practices.

Another trend is the growing focus on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria. Businesses are increasingly being held accountable for their environmental impact, social responsibility, and governance standards.

Additionally, the rise of remote work and return to work have brought about changes in employment laws and workplace policies. Our lawyers must navigate new challenges related to remote work and return to work, such as data privacy, cybersecurity, and employee well-being.

What are the key things you prioritise to get the most out of your team?

Establishing specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) goals. This clarity fosters a sense of purpose and direction, motivating the team to work collaboratively towards shared objectives.
