Based on your experience, what is the key to collaborating successfully with business partners?

Successful collaboration with business partners hinges on open communication, mutual trust, and a shared understanding of goals. From my experience, it’s essential to establish clear, strong and complete contracts defining the main rights and obligations of each party. Regular meetings and updates help ensure that everyone is on the same page and can address any potential issues promptly. Additionally, being transparent about expectations and demonstrating a commitment to achieving mutually beneficial outcomes goes a long way in building strong, long-lasting partnerships.

We are now living in a changing geopolitical environment, with increased sanctions and export controls over the past two to three years. Does this affect your work, particularly regarding your risk management duties?

These changes necessitate a proactive approach to risk management, requiring our legal team to stay abreast of evolving regulations and assess their implications for our business operations. We’ve had to implement robust compliance programs and conduct thorough due diligence to ensure that our transactions and activities align with the latest legal requirements.

How do you motivate and manage the other members of your legal team well?

I prioritize regular one-on-one meetings with team members to understand their goals, address concerns, and provide constructive feedback. Encouraging a collaborative environment where team members can share knowledge and support each other is also crucial.

What is a cause, business-related or otherwise, that you are passionate about, and why?

As CSR is part of my function, it allows me to dedicate time to a topic that is very close to my heart: sustainable development and how to make companies resilient to change (political, environmental, etc.) to ensure business continuity that benefits them and all stakeholders.

Are the effects of AI on the legal world overplayed, or underplayed?

Sometimes one of the other; I believe that AI will help us save time on many topics that can be managed efficiently and allow us to free up time for innovation and legal creation to apprehend the legal profession differently.
