What are the key projects that you have been involved in over the past 12 months?

Neom Green Hydrogen Project, KSA: I have been advising Air Products in its role as EPC contractor, offtaker, and shareholder on the world’s largest green hydrogen and ammonia production facility, located in Neom, Saudi Arabia. Once completed in 2027, the project is expected to produce approximately 600 tonnes of carbon-free hydrogen per day, and represents a significant step forward in the global energy transition.

Blue Hydrogen Industrial Gases Company, KSA: I am advising Air Products Qudra on its joint venture with Saudi Aramco. The newly formed Blue Hydrogen Industrial Gases Company (BHIG) will focus on the production of lower-carbon hydrogen, incorporating carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies to significantly reduce emissions.

Air Products, India: I continue to advise Air Products India on a range of ongoing gasification and hydrogen-related projects across India, including in Kochi, Pune, and Barauni. These projects form part of the wider clean energy roadmap and highlight the company’s commitment to supporting India’s sustainable energy infrastructure.

What do you think are the most important attributes for a modern in-house counsel to possess?

In my view, three core attributes are vital for today’s in-house counsel: resilience – legal departments are increasingly called upon during periods of uncertainty and change. A resilient mindset enables legal professionals to remain focused, calm, and constructive — especially when faced with unforeseen challenges or external pressures; being a good listener: the ability to truly listen — to business stakeholders, regulators, or colleagues — is fundamental. Understanding the nuances of a situation before offering legal advice ensures that our guidance is practical, tailored, and well-received; up-to-date legal knowledge: with laws and regulations evolving at pace — particularly in areas such as ESG, data protection, and energy transition — remaining current is essential. Ongoing professional development, industry engagement, and collaboration with external counsel play an important role in this.

How can general counsel foster a corporate culture that supports ESG principles and compliance across all levels of the organisation?

For ESG principles to take root and flourish, they must be embedded into the core values of the organisation — and that begins at the top. General counsel have a crucial role to play in driving this transformation.

We have taken steps to incorporate ESG into the Law Department’s mission statement, ensuring that it is not viewed as a stand-alone initiative, but rather as a fundamental element of our legal and compliance strategy.

Additionally, we work closely with internal audit teams to support ongoing ESG compliance, assess risks, and address gaps in implementation. Regular training, policy reviews, and cross-functional collaboration are also key to ensuring ESG becomes part of the organisational DNA.
