How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience?
In times of instability or crisis, our first point of reference is always our company values (Honesty, Boldness, Trust, Freedom, Fun, Modesty, and Team Spirit) — they are the compass that ensures every legal and business decision reflects who we are and what we stand for. From there, our legal strategy focuses on protecting the company, its board members, and its employees, while remaining firmly anchored in compliance with the law and ethical standards.
We align our legal and business strategies by prioritising resilience and trust. This means staying close to our employees — not only through structured training programs, but also through open, informal communication that fosters transparency and confidence. During crises, clarity and accessibility from the Legal function are essential to maintaining stability.
Finally, we reinforce these efforts by setting the tone at the top. Our leadership demonstrates integrity and accountability, ensuring that our actions match our words. This approach helps the organisation navigate uncertainty with unity, legal soundness, and long-term resilience.
What measures has your company taken to embed sustainability practices into its core business operations, and how does the role of the general counsel contribute to driving and ensuring sustainable practices within the company?
Our company is deeply committed to sustainability and environmentally-friendly practices. We have implemented several initiatives aimed at reducing our environmental footprint. For instance, we have developed a new website with a modern design, improved navigation, and enhanced functionality to provide a better user experience while minimising energy consumption.
Additionally, we have implemented a customer relationship management (CRM) system to manage customer interactions more effectively, reducing the need for physical resources. Our mobile application allows customers to access our services on the go, further reducing the need for paper-based processes. These efforts are part of our broader strategy to enhance our digital presence and improve customer engagement while prioritising sustainability.
Furthermore, we are proud to be certified in ISO 14001. This certification signifies that our company complies with an internationally recognised Environmental Management System (EMS) standard. It demonstrates our commitment to actively managing our environmental responsibilities, ensuring legal compliance, continuously improving our environmental performance, and effectively managing potential environmental risks.
As General Counsel and Compliance Officer for the region, my responsibility in this area is to ensure compliance with applicable law and company policy. We accomplish this by providing extensive training to key employees and groups, frequent correspondence on the subject and auditing different departments every year.
