How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience?

The legal strategy must align with the business strategy not only by assessing risks but by embracing them. This requires a proactive, resilient, and pragmatic approach that addresses challenges individually and collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team. Each crisis demands a tailored solution—there is no one-size-fits-all remedy. It is equally important to remain open to learning from new experiences, adapting to changing contexts, and applying those lessons to strengthen organisational resilience and decision-making.

What are the major cases or transactions you have been involved in recently?

In recent months, the legal department has managed a series of complex and high-impact matters. These include the implementation of new regulations governing the food and beverage industry amid increased regulatory scrutiny, the handling of tax imposition challenges, and the evolving legal landscape surrounding the use of influencers and digital marketing tools in the absence of comprehensive regulation. Additionally, we have begun to evaluate the emerging legal implications of artificial intelligence, ensuring the company anticipates and mitigates potential risks associated with its use.

What measures has your company taken to embed sustainability practices into its core business operations, and how does the role of the general counsel contribute to driving and ensuring sustainable practices within the company?

Danone’s commitment to sustainability is embedded in its global initiative known as the Danone Impact Journey, which is structured around three main pillars. The first, Health through Food and Hydration, reflects Danone’s dual mission and includes continued investment in scientific research to improve product portfolios and consumer well-being. The second, Preservation and Regeneration of Nature, focuses on combating climate change, protecting biodiversity, and safeguarding water resources. The third, Developing Thriving People and Communities, emphasises fostering a strong organisational culture, supporting purpose-driven brands, and promoting community development. The legal team plays an essential role in facilitating these initiatives with transparency, precision, and accountability, ensuring that the company’s sustainability efforts create measurable, positive impact.

How do you prioritise diversity and inclusion within your legal department, and what initiatives have you implemented to foster a more inclusive and equitable work environment?

I view diversity and inclusion as fundamental drivers of team strength and performance. A diverse legal department brings varied perspectives, skills, and experiences that enhance problem-solving and decision-making. To cultivate an inclusive and equitable environment, I prioritise open dialogue and active participation from all team members, ensuring every voice is heard and valued. Team members are empowered to lead initiatives, propose solutions, and drive the changes they wish to see. Achieving this requires a safe and supportive environment—one where individuals feel comfortable sharing their experiences, perspectives, and concerns. This culture of inclusion not only builds trust and collaboration but also strengthens the team’s collective capacity to deliver excellence.
