What are the key projects that you have been involved in over the past 12 months?

Legal in Udemy has evolved into a strategic driver by reducing friction, accelerating time to value, and helping to unlock revenue growth. I led a global transformation of our operations, rolling out a contract lifecycle management platform, and AI-driven knowledge management and contracting tools that cut turnaround times and accelerated deal flow and time to value. We adopted technology solutions to take on routine legal tasks. With contracts fully digitized, the business gains actionable insights into renewals, upsells, and cross-sells, boosting revenue while shortening deal cycles. Access to advanced analytics and clear ROI have strengthened risk management, contained costs, and kept us agile in a volatile market.

Technology was only part of the shift. My team simplified business processes, standardised templates, rolled out training resources and embedded legal expertise directly into business workflows. This approach deepened supplier relationships through smarter risk allocation and created the scalability required for international expansion.

We also invested in our people. As a result, our team can now fully leverage generative AI. Using Udemy’s AI-powered skills acceleration platform, the team is building digital literacy and project management skills while sharpening fluency in emerging technology. Throughout this transformation, we carried our culture forward and my priority was keeping our high-performing legal team both performing and enjoying their work.

What do you think are the most important attributes for a modern in-house counsel to possess?

In-house counsel require sound judgment, commercial insight, and digital fluency, especially in AI, data, and emerging tech. But what really sets great lawyers apart are soft skills: emotional intelligence, adaptability, and the ability to build trust across the business. Resilience matters. The best in-house counsel navigate complexity with calm, keep their teams motivated through change, and can link legal support directly to business goals. They help their teams stay confident, focused, and ready to tackle whatever comes next.

Based on your experiences in the past year, are there any trends in the legal or business world that you are keeping an eye on, of which you think other in-house lawyers should be mindful?

Three stand out.

First, inhouse teams need to balance innovation with compliance, supporting and guiding clients to leverage AI responsibly while mitigating legal exposure and should stay informed on the rapid deployment of generative AI, which holds immense promise but raises complex questions around privacy, intellectual property and accountability.

Second, cybersecurity remains a board-level issue, legal need to be upskilled to understand the complexity of what they are dealing with, as legal teams central to resilience planning, contractual frameworks and incident response.

Third, the pace of global regulation, particularly around AI, data and digital markets. Legal teams need to stay curious, as navigating the patchwork of inconsistent regulation demands agility, foresight and an ability to scan the horizon with precision.

What is a cause, business or otherwise, that you are passionate about?

I’m passionate about helping people transform their lives and careers through learning and about building high-performing teams. For me, leadership isn’t just about results, it’s about creating inclusive environments where curiosity thrives, people enjoy their work, and culture stays strong through change. A big focus has been championing AI literacy and continuous learning that we can adapt confidently in a fast-moving environment.

My team is versatile and commercially astute, able to navigate complex legal, risk, and strategic issues while staying agile as new priorities emerge. Their diverse skills, paired with a culture of curiosity and collaboration, make them a real force within the business.

Investing in growth, making time for the team, and having fun along the way are central to my approach. This builds trust, strong relationships, and confidence within the team while creating effective cross-functional partnerships across the business. When people feel valued, supported, and motivated, they perform at their best and enjoy the journey which fuels both transformation and long term success
