Over the past year, a key focus has been providing end-to-end legal support for the Group’s M&A activity. We managed the full scope of these projects in-house, without relying on external law firms. This approach not only delivered efficiency and cost-effectiveness but also ensured that legal advice remained deeply aligned with our strategic priorities and business culture.

What do you think are the most important attributes for a modern in-house counsel to possess?

For a modern in-house counsel, the most important attributes are a combination of critical thinking, agility, and diligence, underpinned by strong technical expertise and interpersonal skills. Equally essential is the ability to understand the business, anticipate risks, and provide clear, pragmatic advice that enables the company to move forward confidently and efficiently.

Based on your experiences in the past year, are there any trends in the legal or business world that you are keeping an eye on, of which you think other in-house lawyers should be mindful?

Key trends to watch include evolving ESG regulations, geopolitical and trade risks, the legal implications of digitalisation and data governance, and the rise of ESG-related litigation (including climate litigation). These shifts are pushing in-house lawyers beyond risk management into more strategic roles that support sustainable business transformation.
