What are the most significant cases, projects and/or transactions that you and/or your legal team have recently been involved in?

Over the past year, my team and I have continued to be actively engaged in a wide range of legal and business matters, ranging from complex cross-border mergers and acquisitions to ensuring compliance with evolving regulatory frameworks in our industry. We have also worked closely with senior management to provide proactive legal risk management and support business strategy. For example, we have announced an acquisition of gas assets in Colombia, which is essentially four related transactions thatneed to be managed simultaneously and we continue to explore investment opportunities. Following the revocation of specific licences authorising operations in Venezuela by the American authorities, we have also continued to navigate the uncertain sanctions regime applying to hydrocarbon activities in Venezuela.

How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crisis to ensure the organisation’s resilience? 

I focus on being proactive and staying ahead of potential legal risks. I work closely with key teams to make sure we’re aligned and responding quickly. It’s about giving clear, practical legal advice so that business decisions can be made confidently, even under pressure.

Given the current geopolitical shifts and growing uncertainties around international free trade, has your company’s risk profile evolved, and are you taking measures to address these challenges? 

The geopolitical landscape has changed tremendously in the past year and continues to be unpredictable. Given our exposure in geopolitically sensitive regions, it is one of the highest priorities for M&P and me personally as the Group General Counsel. We continually monitor and adapt our approach to the ever-evolving situation.
