What are the most significant cases, projects and/or transactions that you and/or your legal team have recently been involved in?

In recent years, my team has been actively involved in providing legal advice to guide our digital transformation process. This includes ensuring compliance with applicable legislation and regulations in the adoption of new technologies, implementing AI, managing data protection and privacy issues, and offering appropriate guidance in the development of new digital financial products and services. This has been a significant challenge, as digital processes must coexist with analog ones, and in both cases, we must strive to mitigate legal risks. Nevertheless, the experience has been incredibly rewarding. The knowledge and insights gained are truly invaluable.

How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crisis to ensure the organisation’s resilience?

First and foremost, it is essential to establish a legal strategy that aligns with the objectives set by our board. Based on this foundation, we must identify potential legal risks and implement appropriate measures to mitigate them. While unforeseen challenges may arise, our diverse team has consistently demonstrated the ability to adapt our strategy as needed to effectively address any emerging issues.

This proactive and flexible approach has been the key to maintaining legal integrity while supporting the organisation’s evolving business goals.

What strategies do you employ to ensure the successful digital transformation of a legal department while maintaining compliance with your country’s data protection laws?

One of the key factors in ensuring the successful digital transformation of a legal department while maintaining compliance with data protection laws is seeking expert guidance from data protection specialists and providing comprehensive training to personnel. This helps raise awareness of potential risks and fosters active involvement in the process. For our institution, implementing data protection regulations has been a considerable challenge. We have introduced a new role, the Data Privacy Officer (DPO), which is not currently recognized under our national legislation. Additionally, we have had to adapt to international regulations that are more advanced than our own. However, this adaptation is essential for conducting business with other countries and serves the best interests of our clients. These efforts reflect our commitment to upholding the highest standards of data privacy and regulatory compliance in an increasingly digital environment.

AI has been taken seriously as a potentially revolutionary technological change in the legal world for a number of years now. Has it had a meaningful impact in how your legal team works in this time?

Certainly, we have leveraged AI to review documents that, in the past, would have taken several days to process. With AI, we can now generate concise summaries within minutes. It also enables us to efficiently compare documents and conduct jurisprudence reviews online by simply specifying the relevant topic. In recent years, my team and I have been actively engaged in legal tech initiatives aimed at reducing response times and measuring performance. We have also developed a legal agent to provide our internal clients with prompt responses, allowing our legal professionals to focus on more complex matters. These are just a few examples of how AI is transforming our daily legal operations. As we continue to embrace innovation, we remain committed to enhancing the efficiency, accuracy, and strategic value of our legal services.
