How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience?
At Clever there is a close collaboration between the legal team and other teams. The legal team always strive to support the respective teams in succeeding with the overall goals of the company.
During periods of instability or crisis, this means strict prioritisation, maintaining focus and alignment with other teams and stakeholders. Another key aspect is the ability to adjust to the new reality quickly, even though it will often mean a change in course, quick decision making and rapid adjustments always keeping the company’s focus and purpose in mind.
What are the major cases or transactions you have been involved in recently?
Clever is a charge point operator as well as an electricity company. Therefore, Clever operates in a highly competitive and rapidly developing business field subject to heavy public and political scrutiny as well as regulation.
In general, the legal team collaborates with all teams at Clever and our work portfolio covers a wide range of tasks from day-to-day operations, legal assessments, and compliance to larger projects where we are involved at a more strategic and commercial level as well as legal.
What emerging technologies do you see as having the most significant impact on the legal profession in the near future, and how do you stay updated on these developments?
From my perspective, the technologies with the most significant impact on the legal profession is the (increasing) use of AI in all kinds of legal works from review of contracts and drafting to legal assessments as well as compliance and risk related matters.
Among other things, AI enables other teams to carry out tasks that are traditionally handled by the legal team, which can free up some capacity in the legal team and avoid bottlenecks. Overall, I would say that the margin of error will be reduced by using AI and similar tools but of course AI should be used with consideration.
I try to stay updated through my network by seeking inspiration in what other companies have done in terms of enrollment of AI tools and through e.g. law firms which provide newsletters and seminars.
