Terrie-Lynne Devonish
Chief legal officer & corporate secretary | Altus Group
Legal team size: 16
What projects are you most proud to have worked on over the past 12 months?
Throughout my legal career, I have had the opportunity to work on a number of high-stakes, complex legal matters. Recently, my team and I advised on the sale of a business unit, which involved many complex areas, from employment issues to regulatory risks. Together with our leadership team, we were able to find solutions that balanced legal risks with business objectives.
Have you had any experiences during your career as a lawyer that stand out as particularly unique or interesting?
I have had the pleasure and privilege of mentoring and developing lawyers and legal professionals, helping them build confidence, think critically, and take ownership of their work. Several have gone on to assume leadership roles. Seeing the growth and development of individuals on my team is the most rewarding aspect of my career.
How does your team contribute to the overall business strategy of the company?
Our organisation views our legal team not just as legal advisors, but as business partners. As such, we play a meaningful role in the development and execution of the company’s strategy. Alongside this role, we work with our business colleagues to identify risks, analyse and prioritise them, and provide solutions to manage those risks in support of the company’s strategic objectives.
