How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience?
At Prio, aligning legal strategy with corporate objectives is fundamental to ensuring organisational resilience, particularly during times of instability. In critical periods — such as regulatory crises, abrupt fluctuations in oil prices, or geopolitical events — we adopt a proactive approach based on anticipation, agile communication, and multidisciplinary risk management.
We prioritise the development of legal scenarios and assess their potential business impacts. Our legal team’s role goes beyond traditional reactive support: we actively participate in strategic decision-making, providing structured and business-oriented solutions that ensure operational continuity. Our approach is highly collaborative and integrated with key areas of the company, enabling us to respond not only swiftly, but also with responsibility and legal precision.
What are the major cases or transactions you have been involved in recently?
In recent years, we have been involved in several strategic transactions that have helped position Prio as one of the leading independent oil and gas operators in Brazil, currently producing over 100,000 barrels of oil per day. A highlight has been the acquisition of stakes in mature offshore assets (such as the Frade and Albacora Leste fields), which required complex legal due diligence, including regulatory, environmental, and sensitive contractual matters.
We have also been heavily engaged in designing new operational partnership models that now underpin the efficiency and profitability of our assets.
What emerging technologies do you see as having the most significant impact on the legal profession in the near future, and how do you stay updated on these developments?
Artificial intelligence is, in my view, one of the most impactful emerging technologies in the corporate legal field. AI-driven tools have significantly accelerated contract review, risk analysis, and legal research, allowing professionals to focus on higher-value activities.
To stay updated, I actively participate in legal and innovation forums and maintain a consistent routine of technical reading and benchmarking. Internally, we encourage the controlled testing of new technologies, fostering a culture of innovation grounded in responsibility.
How do you prioritise diversity and inclusion within your legal department, and what initiatives have you implemented to foster a more inclusive and equitable work environment?
Diversity and inclusion are strategic pillars in the structure and management of our company. We believe that a plurality of perspectives enhances our ability to innovate and solve complex challenges. We have adopted inclusive recruitment policies, offer ongoing training on unconscious bias, and promote spaces for open dialogue and active listening.
