A foundation in journalism and media – including a term as Editor-in-Chief at Indicator and years of membership of the Council for Journalism (“Raad voor de Journalistiek”) – shaping a distinctive approach to legal counsel, integrating a deep understanding of narrative, stakeholder dynamics, and communication with a nuanced command of legal frameworks. During his time at Sanoma Media, the legal function was built from the ground up, establishing trust across editorial, commercial, and management levels. The ability to reconcile creative freedom with regulatory discipline became a defining strength and established a lasting reputation in media and entertainment law.
Beyond the boardroom, he is a golfer, avid guitar player and music enthusiast whose passion for both performing and experiencing live music mirrors professional philosophy: discipline meets improvisation, structure enables creativity, and the best outcomes emerge when technical mastery serves authentic expression.
Dominique’s professional approach involves functioning as a true legal generalist, driven by intellectual curiosity and the capacity to recognise patterns across seemingly unrelated challenges. He strives for a professional approach that’s pragmatic and hands-on, stripped of unnecessary legal jargon, and always directed toward solutions that advance business objectives without compromising integrity.
He operates at the intersection of law and strategy, with equal fluency in complex contract drafting, dispute resolution, and corporate positioning on sensitive public issues etc. Dominique’s editorial and media background informs a distinctive communication style in legal advice, focusing not on identifying obstacles, but on providing strategic clarity that enables sound decision-making.
Leadership is grounded in the conviction that legal professionals should act not only as risk managers or deal facilitators, but as true business partners and the ethical compass of organisations. This philosophy translates into leadership marked by foresight, principled pragmatism, and inspiration through clarity of purpose rather than hierarchy.
Dominique has a consistent track record in building and modernising legal teams and departments and demonstrates forward-looking thinking in legal operations, including the adoption of legal technology. Communication is championed as a core competency for every lawyer, based on the belief that even the most sophisticated legal analysis holds no value unless it can be translated into actionable insight for non-lawyers.
Dominique is known for introducing levity and composure into high-pressure environments without diminishing their seriousness, proving that humour and rigour can coexist productively.
