Career Biography

Okechukwu Eke is the General Counsel of Moniepoint, a global fintech holding company incorporated in Delaware with operations across Africa, the United Kingdom and the United States. With over sixteen years’ post-qualification experience across banking and financial technology, he brings deep expertise in corporate governance, cross-border transactions, financial services regulation and strategic risk management.

Before joining Moniepoint in 2022, Okechukwu held legal roles at Interswitch Group, Union Bank of Nigeria Plc, Diamond Bank Plc (now Access Bank Limited), First Bank of Nigeria Limited and Fidelity Bank Plc. His experience spans complex financing transactions, payments infrastructure, secured lending, litigation management and regulatory advisory. He holds an LL.M in International Corporate Law from the University of Leeds (UK) and is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association.

At Moniepoint, he oversees legal matters across the group entities operating in multiple jurisdictions. He leads a 12-member legal team structured under a business partner model, ensuring proactive, commercially aligned legal support across the group’s banking, payments, credit and remittance businesses.

Under his leadership, the legal team played a central role in Moniepoint’s landmark over US$200mn Series C fundraise from global investors including Google, Visa, and ADP. He coordinated multi-jurisdictional due diligence, documentation review, and structured governance approvals, across Nigeria, the United States and the United Kingdom. The raise marked one of the largest in Nigeria’s fintech sector and accelerated the company’s expansion and product innovation.

He also led the legal structuring and execution of the launch of MonieWorld, the group’s international remittance platform, and the subsequent acquisition of a UK Electronic Money Institution (EMI), with change-in-control approval granted by the UK Financial Conduct Authority. This strengthened Moniepoint’s cross-border capabilities and global footprint.

Beyond transactions, Okechukwu has driven operational transformation within the legal function. Upon joining Moniepoint, he spearheaded the implementation of a contract lifecycle management platform. The initiative streamlined contract review workflows, reduced turnaround time, improved clause standardisation, enhanced risk visibility through automated tracking and reporting, and enabled data-driven oversight. This has significantly increased efficiency, strengthened compliance, and positioned the legal team to scale effectively alongside the company’s rapid growth.

Okechukwu is committed to building high-performing legal teams that combine technical excellence with commercial insight, supporting Moniepoint’s mission to expand financial access across Africa and beyond.
