How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience?

In times of crisis, my first priority is to further strengthen the legal function’s role as a strategic partner. This means maintaining legal clarity, ensuring regulatory compliance, and proactively managing risk while enabling business continuity. Alongside my team, I collaborate closely with executive leadership and cross-functional teams to assess exposure and recalibrate priorities in real time.

My legal strategy is designed to be agile yet aligned with the broader business vision, with the priority of safeguarding the company’s continuity, protecting its reputation, and enabling decisive action. The legal function must balance risk awareness with solution-oriented pragmatism, and regular cross-functional communication is key.

One of the most significant and multifaceted projects I have led has been the legal transformation and integration process following the acquisition of two major logistics groups by our Group over the last two years. These operations required cross-border coordination, multi-jurisdictional legal alignment, and harmonisation of corporate and contractual structures to reflect the Group’s governance, compliance and operational standards.

In parallel, as part of my responsibilities within our European Ocean leadership, I have been involved in coordinating global legal activities related to high-value freight forwarding contracts with multinational clients, ensuring that contractual frameworks are both commercially sound and operationally scalable.

What emerging technologies do you see as having the most significant impact on the legal profession in the near future, and how do you stay updated on these developments?

AI-powered legal tools, such as contract lifecycle automation and predictive analytics, have the potential to transform in-house practice. I see particular opportunity in generative AI for knowledge management, and in data analytics for proactive risk assessment. To stay current, I engage with legal innovation forums, follow thought leadership from LegalTech providers, and maintain an open dialogue with tech-savvy colleagues.
