How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience?
In the fashion & luxury industry, periods of instability – whether driven by geopolitical shifts, reputational risks, supply chain disruptions, or internal leadership transitions – require a legal approach that is both adaptive and strategically aligned with the brand’s core identity.
My approach begins with clarity and composure. In the face of crisis, legal must offer more than technical answers – it must provide structure, perspective, and calm. I immediately assess the legal exposure across key areas – contracts, compliance, IP, employment, governance – and prioritize issues that could have the greatest reputational or operational impact. In luxury, brand perception is everything: any misstep can affect not only financials but long-term brand equity.
Our legal strategy is always rooted in Maison’s values. Luxury is not only about product; it’s about narrative, experience, and credibility. Every legal decision – whether in a dispute, contract renegotiation, or compliance matter – must reflect and protect that intangible value. That means choosing the right tone, the right moment, and the right battles.
Finally, resilience depends on people. I invest in building a legal team that is not only technically excellent, but emotionally intelligent, responsive, and trusted by the business. We aim to be a partner – never a blocker – especially when the stakes are high.
In short, my approach during crises is anchored in competence, discipline, empathy, and alignment. Legal supports resilience not just by managing risk, but by ensuring the company’s integrity, agility, and values remain intact – no matter the storm.
What emerging technologies do you see as having the most significant impact on the legal profession in the near future, and how do you stay updated on these developments?
Emerging technologies like generative AI, blockchain, and data analytics are already reshaping the legal profession – especially in fashion & luxury, where innovation is core to brand identity and competitive advantage.
AI raises new questions in IP (e.g., authorship of AI-generated designs), marketing (influencer regulation), and data privacy. Blockchain is transforming product traceability, sustainability claims, and anti-counterfeiting protections – areas requiring robust, forward-looking legal frameworks. Data analytics, especially around ESG and performance metrics, adds regulatory and reputational risk that legal teams must anticipate.
My approach is to stay actively involved – working closely with digital, marketing, and compliance functions to identify potential legal issues early and shape solutions that enable innovation while managing risk. Legal must not be a gatekeeper but a partner – guiding the business through change with clarity and confidence.
To stay updated, I combine hands-on experience with continuous learning: reading sector-specific publications, attending legal tech forums, and staying in dialogue with peers and advisors. I also encourage a legal team mindset that’s agile, curious, and open to transformation.
