Brexit and the legal implications for businesses

Agnes is a Partner and specialist railway lawyer. She has worked on the delivery of a series of high profile and strategically important deals.

Prior to joining Eversheds in 2003 Agnes worked for the in house legal team at the UK Strategic Rail Authority. Her experience includes:

Advising the UK government side on the granting of new franchises (legally mandated concessions) including the Greater Anglia, Northern, West Midlands, New South Central and new Greater Anglia Franchise Agreements. She advised the UK Strategic Rail Authority on the extension of the heavy rail service from Heathrow Airport to London Paddington and the construction of a Transport Interchange development in Doncaster including preparation and negotiation of the relevant Agreements; and the provision of specialist regulatory advice on the development of the Transport Interchange.

Agnes is expert on rolling stock issues. She advises the UK Department for Transport on rolling stock arrangements associated with franchise lettings including preparation of Direct Agreements between the UK government and rolling stock lessors.

Agnes played a key role in the Eversheds team advising the UK Department for Transport on the termination of the NXEC intercity franchise in 2009, including putting in place all licensing, rolling stock, infrastructure access and lease agreements and other arrangements required for the mobilisation of the new interim Government owned operator. She continues to advise the Government interim operator.

She has recently advised Transport for London on the procurement of new light rail vehicles.
With Anne Harris, she recently advised UK Department for Transport on the extension of the existing West Coast franchise including the leasing and integration of a further 106 vehicles into the fleet.

Brexit

The impact of Brexit will not be the same for all businesses. Our Brexit lawyers are working with a number of clients to help them with Brexit planning. We are helping them take steps to put themselves in the best possible position. For some clients, we have analysed the implications of Brexit on their business based on the different potential models of Brexit. We would be happy to discuss the potential implications of Brexit for your business too.

Contact Agnes for more information on how Brexit may affect your business.
